Preventive Medical Examination (PME)
What is Preventive Medical Examination (PME)?
A Preventive Medical Examination (PME) is a voluntary medical examination that you, as an employer, offer to gain insight into the physical and mental health of your employees. Artemis Health’s PMO is broad in scope and looks not only at work-related risks, but also at lifestyle, vitality, and overall resilience.
The examination starts with an online questionnaire (E-PME) and is followed by a personal physical consultation of approximately 35 to 45 minutes. During this consultation, a medical professional discusses the results and relevant measurements are taken. The aim is to identify health risks at an early stage and provide employees with concrete, practical advice.
Everything is done confidentially. Employees receive personal feedback, while you, as an employer, gain insight into anonymized trends that support prevention policy and sustainable employability.
The PME of Artemis Health consists of:
- Online questionnaire Comprehensive assessment of health, well-being, workload, and lifestyle
- Personal physical examinationIndividual discussion of the results with physical measurements, focused on identifying potential health risks.
- Individual report and targeted adviceA clear personal report with practical lifestyle and health advice, including action points and a referral if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently asked questions about PAGO & PME at Artemis Health
What is the difference between a PAGO and a PMO?
A PAGO (Periodic Occupational Health Examination) focuses primarily on health risks arising from work, such as physical strain, hazardous substances, or computer work.
A PMO (Preventive Medical Examination) is broader in scope and combines work-related risks with general health issues such as lifestyle, mental resilience, and work capacity.
Artemis Health always conducts PAGOs and PMOs in line with your organization’s RI&E (Risk Inventory and Evaluation).
Is offering a PAGO or PME mandatory?
Yes. Under the Working Conditions Act, you as an employer are obliged to offer employees the opportunity to participate in a PAGO on a regular basis if the RI&E reveals that there are health risks.
A PMO is not explicitly required by law, but is expressly regarded by the Inspectorate SZW as best practice and a practical interpretation of good employment practices.
Why would an organization choose a PMO instead of just a PAGO?
A PMO provides more insight than just work-related risks. It helps with:
• early detection of health problems
• reducing absenteeism and dropout rates
• improving sustainable employability
• substantiating prevention policy with data
For many organizations, a PMO is a logical step in moving from legal compliance to strategic prevention.
How does Artemis Health ensure that the research is relevant to our organization?
We always start with the RI&E as our basis. Based on this, we work with you to put together a modular assessment.
This means you don’t choose a standard package, but a PAGO or PMO that suits job profiles, workload, sector-specific risks, and strategic HR objectives.
Can we decide which components are included?
Yes. Artemis Health works on a modular basis. You can add or remove modules, as long as the content remains in line with the RI&E and the legal frameworks.
We actively advise on this, so that the content of the assessment is accurate and remains practical.
How is employee privacy guaranteed?
Employee privacy is paramount. Medical data:
• can only be viewed by the employee and the doctor
• is strictly separated from employer information
• is processed in accordance with the GDPR, WGBO, and medical professional standards
As an employer, you will only receive anonymized group reports, without any traceable information.
What are the concrete benefits of group reporting for our organization?
The group report provides insight into trends and areas of concern at the organizational level, such as:
• physical and mental resilience
• work pressure and recovery
• lifestyle-related risks
• differences between job groups, if desired
These insights can be used directly for prevention policy, RI&E updates, HR and absenteeism strategy, and consultation with the works council or occupational health and safety service.
How burdensome is a PAGO or PME for the organization?
We organize the research in such a way that the impact on business operations is minimal. We do this by:
• efficient planning on location or externally
• digital questionnaires in advance
• short turnaround times per employee
• clear communication with participants
Artemis Health supervises the entire process from planning to feedback.
Can examinations also be conducted on-site?
Yes. Depending on the modules chosen, we conduct PAGOs and PMOs on location, in our clinics, or in a hybrid form.
Together, we determine what best suits your organization in terms of logistics and organization.
What is the role of HR or management during the process?
HR and management are primarily involved in determining the objective, the content of the survey, and the interpretation of the group report.
Artemis Health is fully responsible for the medical implementation and individual communication with employees.
How often should a PAGO or PMO be offered?
The frequency depends on the nature of the risks, the results of the RI&E, and sector and job profiles.
Many organizations opt for a cycle of once every three to five years, with interim reviews where necessary.
How does Artemis Health provide support after the study?
We don’t stop at reporting. If desired, we can assist with:
• interpreting the results
• translating them into concrete measures
• communicating with the works council or employees
• integrating them into existing health and safety policies or vitality programs
Why do organizations choose Artemis Health?
Organizations choose Artemis Health because of:
• medical expertise and professional execution
• customization based on the RI&E (Risk Inventory and Evaluation)
• clear reports for management
• short lines of communication and personal guidance
• focus on prevention and practical applicability
